Batik, Banners & Logos

A fun and creative session-Design a logo or add colour to a carnival celebration.

Banners can be created to add colour to carnival processions, performances, group logos or for theme based decoration.

Batik– Using the basis of traditional Indonesian -Javanese batik techniques as a starting point, participants will be introduced to using the Tjunting tools to create their own designs using hot wax either as individual pieces or as a larger scale banner in a group. These are then coloured using fabric dyes where the wax creates a resist to the dye. The fabric dyes will be applied into the areas created and the designs are then ironed to remove the wax. If time allows further layers of wax can then be added to apply different colours, creating textural effects.

Why not try…

This project would combine with other Indonesian arts such as Indonesian dance, shadow puppets or gamelan music.
